Win or lose, Saturday’s FA Cup final will reportedly be Louis van Gaal’s last game in charge at Manchester United, and Jose Mourinho will be the man to replace him.
AS reports that the Old Trafford brass will release a statement following United’s clash against Crystal Palace to announce Mourinho as the club’s next manager, ending van Gaal’s tenure one year before his deal was set to expire.
Mourinho will reportedly earn up to €15 million ($16.8m) per season, and it is believed he’ll be given the same transfer budget that van Gaal has had to play with. The report in AS also claims that Mourinho already signed a pre-contract with United which stipulates that should the Portuguese not take charge of the club this summer, he would be entitled to millions of dollars of compensation.
Mourinho would be United’s third manager in three years after Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26-year reign. It would be Mourinho’s first appointment since Chelsea sacked him in December after a brutal start to the club’s title defense left the Blues hovering just above the relegation zone.
